To the honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:
The petition of the undersigned citizens shows that, following the end of the bloody conflict between forces of the Sri Lankan Government and the Tamil Tigers:
• Almost 300000 Tamils are detained in highly overcrowded camps;
• Sanitation and hygiene standards in camps are inadequate and various diseases are spreading as a result
• Health facilities are inadequate to meet the needs of those detained;
• Aid agencies and human rights organisations are not able to move freely through the camps to assist detainees and monitor
their treatment;
• Detainees are not free to return to their homes and have been given no guarantees about when and where they can resettle;
• Family members are separated from each other, are not aware of the whereabouts of their loved ones and are not able to
reunite;
• No satisfactory process has been established to identify and address possible breaches of the Geneva Convention and other
human rights breaches;
• No clear effort is being made by the Sri Lankan Government to address the longstanding grievances of Tamils.
Your petitioners ask that the Senate takes urgent action to pressure the Sri Lankan Government to:
• allow immediate and unrestricted access to all camps by aid agencies and international human rights monitors;
• Allow detainees to reunite with family members immediately and to return to their homes without further delay;
• Establish an independent inquiry into human rights violations committed during the recent conflict;
• Embark on a genuine reconciliation process which addresses the grievances of Tamils.

    It is un beleivable that in the name of LORD Bhudha the GOSL
    is adopting these these crimes and the whole is watching.
    The whole world watched the genocidal elimination of about
    50,000 innocent civilians from the beginning of this year.

    It is the need of hour,Tamils are also humans like any other race,unfortunately, they are treated worse than animals in Sri Lanka with no respect for basic human rights(numerous crime against humanity).

    Atleast the Christian understand the value of human rights.It is a regret that In Sri Lanka, the Budhasim and Sinhala language are used to oppress other Enthic communities.

    Australia has a role to play and to show its genuine commitments to human rights instead of making mere statements.

    First of all I would like to say thanks of lot on behalf of Tamils. Under the banner of Democracy, since 1958 the Sinhala Buddhist Chauvinist rulers have been doing Genocide against Tamils systematically. Many supper power countries are behind to Sri Lankan present government for the recent inhuman and evil atrocities against the Tamils. Silence of UN is encouraging the Sri Lanka rulers to do more and more human rights violation against Tamils.

  8. Ragunath said,

    Thank you very much for your efforts. 300,000 tamils are kept in concentration camps. Recent video telecasted on UK channel 4 is showing how srilankan military is doing Nazi type extra judical killings. Sri Lankan tamils only expectation is that world should act fast to save us.

    Australian government should take solid stpes in this regard.
